Detection of changes with TerraSAR-X

These changes are detected using coherence interferometry between two high-resolution TerraSAR-X StaringSpotLight images of 26 February 2016 and 28 March 2016. The coloured areas show changes which took place in Barra da Tijuca Park in March 2016. Construction is progressing, ready for the international sports competitions in August 2016.

Detection of changes with TerraSAR-X

The buildings with metal structures return a strong signal to the sensor; therefore appearing bright white. Smooth surfaces which inlcudes alleys and the water in the lagoon, are black because they reflect a weaker signal.

Changes are visible in the image, for example,new objects appear bright green and objects that have disappeared appear in red. The progress of construction can therefore be monitored along with the movements of building materials and the appearance of new structures. The vegetation, which moves very slightly, is shown in a yellowish-green tone visible on the edges of the lagoon.
