Beijing officially opens the world’s largest airport.
The construction of this colossal airport has taken five years to complete and is comprised of 1.6 million cubic metres of concrete and 52,000 tonnes of steel, covering an area of 47 square kilometres. The airport has invested heavily in technology - from automation to speed up visitor experience inside the terminal, through to snow-melting concrete, making winter roads less hazardous.
