Pléiades satellite constellation, operated by Airbus Defence and Space, has captured images of the devastating wildfires in the village of Mati, near Athens, Greece.

With winds of 50 miles per hour that frequently changed direction, the wild fires spread east and west of Athens into seaside areas with high populations. Greek reports suggested that 1,500 homes had been damaged, with many destroyed.

The before and after Pléiades images over Mati show the devastation caused by the wildfires. The ‘before’ Pléiades image was acquired on March 7th, 2018, and the after Pléiades image was acquired on July 25th, 2018, two days after the wildfires.
