In case you missed our previous communications, investigations on the impact of GPS week rollover on SAFEcommand products were concluded and a summary of the findings is as below. The ones highlighted have the highest impact.

VMDS and ScResponse:

These do not utilise the date/time information in displaying positions on the map. ARL/GPS Data sent to the Gateway is taken from the system time on the MDT not from the GPS feed.

Airwave radios:

Officer Radios use Short LIP and is not impacted by GPS rollover

ScGateway (Core):

The core Gateway does not check the date and time of messages so if the date and time did happen to be wrong on a message received from a client then this would still go through the Gateway and be handled as usual, passed to the C&C or relayed to other call signs as appropriate.

AVL Streamer Service/Gateway Reporting Module:

These modules will log/report the AVL as it is received. So if it’s from a device reporting incorrect data then the data will be logged incorrectly.

ScGuide:

Unlike VMDS and ScResponse, Date/Time info sent from ScGuide to Gateway does include the date received in the GPS data. Gateway will not mind if the date is incorrect but this could have an impact on other systems that gateway passes the data too. You should check with your hardware supplier to see how your devices are going to handle this change. For instance if they are issuing a patch, when are they doing this and if it’s before the rollover date in April, is your date going to be incorrect in the lead up to the rollover? If you are concerned about this please log a call so we can discuss this with you and see what the best way to handle this is.

TomTom Webfleet Adapter:

Our Tom Tom Webfleet adapter filters out GPS that’s not current, so if the data coming from it to Gateway has an incorrect date then it will be ignored. You should check with TomTom to see how their devices/Webfleet handles this change. If you are concerned about this please log a call so we can discuss this with you and see what the best way to handle this is.

As always, please get in touch with us by logging a call with our Service Desk, if you have any questions about this.
