The potential benefits of an easy-to-navigate Northwest Passage are significant. An important component to establish a reliable route planning and guidance through the ice is the installation of a coastal surveillance radar system that can detect, identify and track all ground and sea-moving targets.

The Mosul Dam was built in the early 1980s. With a length of 3.65km and the crest elevation at 341m, the Mosul dam is the largest dam in Iraq. It is located in Northwestern Iraq on the Tigris River, upstream of the city of Mosul. The purpose of the dam is to generate hydroelectricity and provide water for downstream irrigation. At full capacity, the structure holds around 12.5 million cubic metres of water and provides electricity to the 1.7 million residents of Mosul.
Dam Monitoring with TerraSAR-X – An Effective Alternative to Terrestrial Surveying
Airbus Defence and Space's high-resolution TerraSAR-X satellite regularly recorded data over a landslide-prone vineyard area to ensure the safe construction of the Hochmosel Bridge.
Surface Movement Monitoring with TerraSAR-X for Safe Construction Projects
Airbus Defence and Space experts used data acquired by the high-resolution TerraSAR-X satellite to monitor surface movement phenomena in Beijing, China. Significant land subsidence of up to 150mm per year was detected.
Satellite Data Can Ensure Safety in Urban Areas
Large construction projects need to be regularly monitored to ensure operational safety and effectively manage the progress. Particularly if these projects are as large as the construction of the Belo Monte Dam in Brazil.
