FORMOSAT-2 imagery is easily exploitable and of great value in the event of an environmental crisis.
When dealing with the consequences of earthquakes, volcano eruptions, wildfires or floods, FORMOSAT-2’s ability to deliver continuous imagery quickly has proven a key asset for understanding events as they unfold and easing the task of humanitarian aid teams in the field.

Mud volcano eruption

Since 29 May 2006, a mud volcano has been spewing out a hot, viscous and foul-smelling slurry in the district of Sidoarjo, on the eastern side of the island of Java, Indonesia. For more than 2 years, Astrium Services tasked the FORMOSAT-2 satellite to acquire monthly imagery of the volcano.
