Texas ExplosionDamage Assessment with Pléiades
Pléiades, the very-high-resolution satellite built and operated by Astrium, delivered a new image of the fertilizer plant which exploded on April 17, 2013 in West, Texas.
Astrium Services’ photo-interpreters have performed an analysis of the current situation and provided an annotated image, usable for detailed damage assessments and tracking of follow-up work.
The blast had the same power as a 2.1-magnitude earthquake, as recorded by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). As a result, dozens of homes and an apartment complex were completely destroyed. In addition, there was significant damage to a nearby middle school and nursing home.
